MSR [2012 - 2014]
MSR is largely concerned with the depiction of disaster, the imaginative power of wreaking havoc and the associated deteriorating status of the landscape. We are confronted with a sequence of documentary footage that puts the focus on the travails and tactics of survivors, i.e. a pack of stray dogs that dwells within the boundaries of a antagonistic world; a dystopian desertscape [aka Kuwait], occupied by a military machine that protects oil company interests.

Tobias Hering [°1971] studied philosophy in Frankfurt/Main and Berlin. He works as a freelance curator and writer with a focus on experimental documentary forms and the politics of the image. Artists he has recently worked with include Filipa César, Raphaël Cuomo & Maria Iorio, Dani Gal, Gilles Aubry, Raphaël Grisey, Sarah Vanagt, Pierre-Yves Vandeweerd, Philip Scheffner and Elke Marhöfer among others. Tobias Hering is a member of the selection comittee for 'dokfest' Kassel, an annual festival for documentary and experimental film and video now in its 31st year. He is also a participant of 'Living Archive — Archival Work as a Contemporary Artistic and Curatorial Practice' at Arsenal — Institute for Film and Video Art, Berlin, where he is currently co-directing the collaborative research project 'Visionary Archive'. Tobias Hering has recently edited the essay collection 'Der Standpunkt der Aufnahme — Point of View: Perspectives of political film and video work' [Archive Books, Berlin 2014].
